Access to nutritious food is a fundamental human right. Our Food Security Program stands as a beacon of hope, addressing the pressing issue of hunger in our community. By providing access to nutritious food, empowering communities, and fostering sustainable practices, we contribute to the global effort to eradicate hunger and achieve food security for all. With over 11 million people in Pakistan facing acute food shortages, we have researched the prevailing challenges, recognizing that community members, the majority of whom are children, grapple with food insecurity daily. Armed with this knowledge, we are determined to make a lasting difference right here in Mehran Town. Our Food Security Program aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 2 – Zero Hunger, helping people alleviate hunger and ensuring that our beneficiaries will not sleep on an empty stomach.

Sustainable Food Solutions

We are committed to delivering sustainable food solutions to address hunger and malnutrition in underserved communities. Our approach involves providing immediate relief through the distribution of food parcels to vulnerable families, as well as daily breakfast and lunch meals to students and staff members in our schools. Additionally, we facilitate skill development training programs to promote sustainable livelihoods within the food sector.

Monthly Food Parcels: Every month, we distribute essential food items to 60 carefully selected families in need. Each food parcel, sufficient for the family’s monthly needs, covers a range of 5-6 family members. The selection and distribution process involves a rigorous screening, monitoring, and evaluation procedure, ensuring that those who need it most receive assistance. Over 6 months, we provide sustained support to each family, adapting to the dynamic needs of the beneficiaries.

Ramadan Food Parcels and Iftar: Recognising the significance of the holy month of Ramadan, we annually distribute over 1,000 food parcels to beneficiaries. This initiative allows them to enjoy the festivities without the burden of arranging meals. The application process involves comprehensive registration, screening, and monitoring, ensuring transparency and accountability. In addition to the food parcels, we extend our support by providing over 300 daily Iftars, contributing to the spiritual well-being of our beneficiaries throughout the month.

Milk Malnutrition Program

Malnutrition continues to be a pressing chal- lenge in Pakistan, with an alarming rate of stunted growth among children due to poverty and escalating food prices. The Fahmida Begum Foundation remains steadfast in its commitment to addressing this crisis. Our initiatives focus on providing essential nutrition- al support and promoting awareness about the importance of balanced diets within vulnerable communities.
In December 2022, FBF launched a pilot milk-feeding program in Mehran Town. The program identified 33 deserving students in need and began providing them with a daily meal in addition to milk. The results are promis- ing! Children are showing increased vitality, fewer illnesses, and even some weight and height gains.
